The Lava River Cave is just 30 minutes away from Flagstaff, Arizona. The cave itself was formed 700,000 years ago - at that time, molten lava erupted out of nearby Harts Prairie. The cave was founded in 1915 by lumbermen in the area.

Chevy Grille Hot Wheels Display

DIY and Crafts

Have you priced a Hot Wheels Display lately? Look no further than an egg-crate grille from a 73-87 Chevy half-ton pickup. Use it to display your ever-growing Hot Wheels collection!

While some folks pile up in line at the nearest Hobby Lobby for all things home decor, some of us are knee deep in salvage yards pulling egg-crate grills for hot wheels car displays…

It has been a few years since I picked up this egg-crate grille from a ’73 Chevy half-ton truck. While it wasn’t exactly new… it was and still is one of my favorite scores – considering I had to go all the way to the Midwest to find one that was in such good condition.

While some people might laugh at the neediness of an egg-crate grill mounted on their child’s bedroom wall, I thought this was perhaps the most genius, useful, and unique way to display the ever-growing collection of Hot Wheels cars that my boys have had growing since they were just learning how to walk.

I remember… taking them to the grocery store when they were 2 years old, and letting them buy a Hot Wheels car on each trip. They’d walk out, one in each hand – you would have thought they had scored their dream muscle car, and I was convinced that one day, my boys would be car fanatics as much as I have always been.

On a serious note, have you ever looked at the prices of display cases for a Hot Wheels collection? If you haven’t, take a gander on Etsy – or, your nearest Hobby Lobby, and you’ll find displays that may work for Hot Wheels.

But … while they might be newer, fresher, cleaner.. they’ll never, ever in a million years be as unique as a Chevy egg-crate grille.

This Chevy Egg-Crate Grille is the perfect medium for hanging your Hot Wheels Collection.

Next time you’re in the market for a custom Hot Wheels display, I suggest avoiding all the most popular of stores – hit up your local car show or swap meet to find one of these grilles.

You’ll want to aim for the 1973 – 1977 year (which was the timeframe for the egg-crate grille) – don’t expect it to be in excellent condition.

Its age has so much character – not only will it be the perfect display case for your collection, you’ll really look like a true car/truck aficionado badass.
