The Lava River Cave is just 30 minutes away from Flagstaff, Arizona. The cave itself was formed 700,000 years ago - at that time, molten lava erupted out of nearby Harts Prairie. The cave was founded in 1915 by lumbermen in the area.

DIY: Using Inexpensive Cucumbers to Make Homemade Cucumber Astringent

Frugal Living

images

Many of us are picking up inexpensive cucumbers this week…..3 for $0.99 at El Super, or price matching at Walmart..  My kids eat them with salt and lemon.. I lovee them.

Later this spring and early summer we’ll likely see them 8 for $.99 – super deal.

Best part… if you love Yes to Carrots you can definitely re-create it……for a whole lot cheaper.

Last summer, reader MJ helped us re-create our favorite Yes to Carrots products – with her do-it-yourself idea for Cucumber Astringent – with summer coming up, and many more weeks of inexpensive cucumbers we all should give this a shot.

I found a really neat cucumber astringent recipe for those hot summer days.

  • 1 cup of cucumber juice (either get it from your juicer or blend and use strainer)
  • 1 T glycerin

You can keep it in the fridge in a glass container, and dip a cotton ball in it (no double dipping!).  This is good for blemishes.

You can usually purchase Glycerin at Target or Walmart in the Pharmacy area – or you can even order from Amazon as well.

Thanks MJ!
