Lets Clean that Dishwasher With Some Good Ol’ Lemon Kool-Aid…

Frugal Living

Guess what today is? It’s FRUGAL FRIDAY!
And today we’re talking about:  KOOL-AID.
Lemon to be exact.
So what does this picture signify? Well, today I had an issue. I had TOO much to do around the house, kids screaming, toys FLYING……….   ahhhh!!! Daily issue for me. To save myself time, I tossed my dishes in the dishwasher.  BUT WAIT ~ it was stinky stinky because it has been MONTHS since I last used it. Just to give you some insight…
Last year at this time, we couponers got Finish dish tablets at Wags FREE after RR.  Well, I got one box. And I still have that ONE BOX……. hee hee, don’t laugh at me, I truly would rather wash by hand.
So what can I use to make my dishwasher clean?  I don’t have time to run to get dishwasher cleaner.

Hmmmm…….   Hmmmmm…..

LEMON KOOL AID!
Seriously – one packet of Lemon Kool-Aid – unsweetened.  I poured it in the tray in my dishwasher and ran an empty cycle.  45 min later? MMMMnnnn MMMMnnn smells good!
Easy fix. A 15¢ packet of Kool Aid has citric acid ~ that’s a cheap alternative to those $$ dishwasher cleaners that people buy.  So next time you’re needing a cleaner, think twice about buying that fancy dancy cleaning product; good ol’ Lemon Kool-Aid works just perfect.  Don’t try anything else. JUST the LEMON TYPE.  The unsweetened packet to be exact.  Once you try it you’ll never go back!

      Do you know if this would work in a washing machine as well?

    :) That sounds great! I'm a little surprised that you wash by hand though, you know you have a lot of water if you use the dishwasher = saving $. :)

    @Michelle,

    Yep…learned that years ago. It was in a book I had about using natural and or safe things around the house to clean. You will also find it on the net if you search lemonade Kool aid toilet cleaning.

    I have a bunch of Crystal Light To-Go packets that I use for this. Lemon-Lime only. 2 packets run through an empty reg. cycle takes care of all that yucky soap scum.
