The Lava River Cave is just 30 minutes away from Flagstaff, Arizona. The cave itself was formed 700,000 years ago - at that time, molten lava erupted out of nearby Harts Prairie. The cave was founded in 1915 by lumbermen in the area.

Easy 2-Ingredient Shower Cleaner Solution

Frugal Living

photo

Reposting this for all that missed it in April. Just a few days ago, I picked up a few jugs of Vinegar at Fry’s – I actually ran out of this spray (which I keep one in each shower)…

Dave asked me yesterday where the “Magic Cleaner” was – I had to laugh – up until then I had no idea he actually paid attention to the bottle hanging in the shower – nevertheless, I showed him how to whip up a few bottles so he could put them back in the bathrooms.

We all use tons of product in the shower, doesn’t take much with the Arizona hard water to build up.. and cause grime, stains, and everything else. Fix it fast for low cost… with Dawn and Vinegar.

Use the Vinegar to make a magic shower cleaner that works wonders in the bathroom.

I keep mine in each shower in a spray bottle hanging over the top — I spray every time I get out of the shower  – we have ONE bottle in each bathroom. Pick up the empty spray bottle for a buck at Home Depot.

Ingredients

  • Equal Parts: Vinegar and Dawn Dish Soap
  • *The Regular Dawn (Blue, etc) works best
  • Dawn Hand Renewal I have not tested.
  1. Heat up Vinegar
  2. Pour in a Spray Bottle (Be Careful!) – I aim for 3/4 full
  3. Add  blue Dawn —> I usually do 3/4 spray bottle of Vinegar and the rest Dawn Dish Soap. Flip upside down and gently blend.
  4. Get in the shower, spray the solution on walls, and floor, and doors and let it sit a few hours. Then, after a while, find an excuse to shower, and wipe it clean with a washcloth as you shower at the same time.
  5. Next time you use, you are not required to heat.
You can also see this too – as another use for Dawn:

I put the mix in a dishwand and keep it in the shower/tub area so whoever is taking a shower can scrub when they are finished….it really does work….

How hot do you heat it? To a simmer, boil?

Does this get rid of the mineral spots that are left from the hard water we have in Phoenix?

Sure does. We used to have a Softener, but in the new house we don’t.. and I am not buying one right now as we dont have the money.

I spray my shower daily with this, works super.

Love this tip — pinned it and will definitely try it! Also like the dishwand idea. I’ll bet adding a few drops of melaleuca essential oil (tea tree oil) would help keep mold at bay too.

I use this to clean my shower and love how it works. I never thought to leave it in the shower and use it on a more regular basis. Love that idea…also be careful because it makes the floor very slippery. :) Don’t need the paramedics seeing you naked on the shower floor

Sorry if I sound stupid, but I don’t understand this DIY explanation. The ingredients say equal parts Dawn and vinegar, but the instructions say fill spray bottle 3/4 with vinegar to the rest of the way with Dawn. That’s not equal parts, that’s 75/25. And, the Dawn pictured is Dawn Ultra, not regular Dawn like the ingredients list mentions. And, won’t hot vinegar make the Dawn foam up?
What is the true solution mixture?
