FREE or Low Cost Dental Services in the Phoenix Metro Area

Oral health

I put together this resource in hopes that it will help some of you who are without Dental Insurance, OR, perhaps might have reached your limit on your coverage for this year.

Dental is quite costly – even for those of us who have insurance. Fortunately there are resource out there in the Phoenix area designed to assist those of you who may not otherwise be able to visit regularly due to cost.

I have had several people over the last few months ask me to put together this list – hopefully it helps those of you who are dire need of dental care.

Thrive to Five offers Complimentary Flouride Varnish Treatments and Oral Health Screenings Tuesdays through May – you can see more HERE on their site… they are in the Kyrene area.

Carrington College in Mesa (formerly Apollo College) offers free dental appointments to select folks – the appointments are taken by instructors, and the dental work done by students in a supervised environment.

Carrington College’s dental clinic is offering free appointments to adults who have gum disease, need deep-root cleaning or haven’t been to a dentist for three to five years.

See more in my last post HERE.

If you are in the East Valley – AT Still University (located north of Baseline between Power & Recker Road just south of US60) operates a Dental Clinic Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a low cost – you can see more about their clinic (both Advanced Care and Orthodontic) by reading HERE – Patients as young as age 7 are eligible to receive services.

Rio Salado College (Dental Hygiene) offers cleanings for $25 – and dental services to children 4 years of age and older – generally during the summer semester.  You can see more about their dental program (RSC Dental Clinic) by heading to their site.

Midwestern University Dental Institute (West Valley) – Cleanings, X-Rays, Fillings, Crowns, Extractions, etc. about 30-50% less than going to a regular dentist – it’s a great choice if you are without insurance, or if you have reached your limit on your insurance for the year. See HERE for more regarding their services.

Mesa Community College has a dental hygiene program, that runs through A.T. Still University in East Mesa. They operate from late August to Mid-May – you will need to make an appointment by calling them at 480-248-8195, and you can read more HERE.

Phoenix College — in Central Phx – they do dental work as well, by students who are observed by faculty instructors.  They generally do appointments in the Spring and Fall – Monday to Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.   Appointments can be made early in the semester, and you can reach them at 602-285-7323 or read HERE to see what services are provided.

thanks, Hayley and Michelle!

{Recipe} Homemade Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bars

Earlier last month I posted this receipt to make granola bars – we have, in the past, purchased them – but over time I stopped purchasing the commercial granola bars in store due to the listing of ingredients on the box. For those of you who would rather make your own instead of buying the prepackaged this is a great way to experiment & make you own – so that you know what goes in to the bars.

Last month – I posted this recipe – and many of you have given it a whirl – I used the last of the pan today to send with Wendy to school, so I’m making another batch tonight.

I found a great recipe HERE (from My Humble Kitchen) that I used – I prefer to use dried fruit but, did not have any on hand, so I used mini chocolate chips instead.

Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bars

1 2/3 C. Rolled Oats (I Used Bob’s Red Mill that I picked up on Amazon)
1/3 C. Raw Honey
1/4 C. Organic Brown Sugar (I Used Wholesome Sweeteners Fair Trade I picked up on Amazon)
1/3 C. Whole Wheat Pastry Flour (I Used Bob’s Red Mill that I picked up at the Farmers Market)
1 tsp Pure Vanilla extract
1/4 C. Mini Chocolate Chips (I used Enjoy Life, some Fry’s stores carry them around $5/bag)
1/4 C. Melted Butter (I used Land O Lakes)

My Humble Kitchen’s recipe included Peanut Butter Chips but I left those out – I figured Chocolate Chips were enough.

I buttered my baking pan, THEN lined with parchment, then buttered once again – mixed all the ingredients, and pressed into the pan to bake for 20 minutes at 350.

I cut them into squares, and my kids love them – they could eat the entire pan, so to alleviate that issue, they get only 1 – the rest stay in a covered container.
